In my opinion 2 versions back is fair and gives customers plenty of time to update. When I buy CS6 for example, I don't want to pay more for it because Adobe is figuring in the maintenance cost of keeping it compatible for a decade. Honestly, I wish companies would reign in the backwards support a bit more and force people to update. I think that is more than sufficient backwards support. OSX can run any CS that has come out since then.
